Escher Group enters into agreement with Wincor Nixdorf

Wincor Nixdorf peripheral drivers will be integrated into Escher's peer-to-peer messaging and data management platform

Boston, Mass. - October 8, 2002 - Escher Group Ltd today announced that it is working with Wincor Nixdorf International GmbH, a leading supplier of IT products and services for the retail-banking and retail industries that has successfully entered the postal market, to develop peripheral drivers that are compatible with Escher's WebRiposte™ counter automation platform.

"Continuous improvement of branch processes for an enhanced and consistent consumer experience while improving process efficiency - this is a mature challenge for postal organizations. It can only be met through collaboration with strong partners," said Javier Lopez Bartolom, senior vice president of Wincor Nixdorf. "As more post offices begin to implement extended service offerings such as financial and retail transactions, our partnership will be able to provide them with complete end-to-end solutions. It combines the expertise of Escher as a leading provider of postal counter automation with the specialized know-how of Wincor Nixdorf as a market leader in the required customer-oriented processes in the retail and retail-banking sectors."

Developed for use in modern counter environments, the Wincor Nixdorf BEETLE POS family delivers functionality and flexibility that is required of modern computerized POS solutions. A range of peripherals including scanners, printers, cash drawers, displays, monitors, scales, and keyboards fulfills the demand for efficient transaction handling at the postal counter. Numerous postal organizations worldwide use Wincor Nixdorf's scalable and TCO-optimized counter solutions to provide enhanced customer service in various branch types and concepts.

WebRiposte is designed to support the development and deployment of e-business solutions both within the enterprise and over the Internet, and it is ideal for high-volume transaction-processing environments. WebRiposte and its predecessor, Riposte®, have been adopted by postal administrations around the globe and currently process over 15 million transactions per day, amounting to a value of $225 billion annually. In addition to its reliability and scalability, WebRiposte's standards-based, messaging and data management platform dramatically reduces the total cost of ownership for customers by simplifying functions such as backup and recovery, content and software distribution, and integration with existing systems.

"Escher is committed to working with the best companies worldwide in order to meet the postal industry's needs for powerful, scalable infrastructure solutions," said a spokesperson for Escher Group. "Wincor Nixdorf's products are used in financial institutions, retail outlets, and post offices across the globe.
