Austrian Post Upgrades to Escher Group's Web-Based Distributed Messaging Solution
WebRiposte™ provides a foundation for developing and deploying multi-channel applications in a secure, highly scalable, transaction-processing environment
Boston, Mass. - October 8, 2002 - Escher Group Limited, a leading provider of peer-to-peer messaging and data management solutions, today announced that Austrian Post will be upgrading to the WebRiposte™ platform for its counter automation system. WebRiposte is Escher's multi-channel, peer-to-peer, distributed messaging solution that includes content distribution and storage. Post AG will be using WebRiposte to integrate Internet-based applications from partner businesses into their postal counters environment.
"Following the success of our Riposte® implementation, WebRiposte was the next logical step to extend system functionality and enhance performance at our postal counters," said Heinz Fruehauf, area of business manager for the Post AG postal retail network. "WebRiposte will allow for the seamless integration of new Internet-based applications across our entire system, which encompasses over 4,000 workstations throughout Austria. We anticipate that these new partner applications will increase our revenue as well as offer greater convenience to our customers, thereby helping to improve customer satisfaction and loyalty."
WebRiposte is built upon the core-messaging infrastructure that has been deployed in the Riposte product line. With WebRiposte, customers maintain the benefits of a high-volume, fault-tolerant, distributed, transaction-processing platform while gaining support for Internet standards and a full set of XML-messaging and content delivery services.
The WebRiposte platform will enable Post AG to incorporate Internet-based applications from their business partners into their counter automation system. For example, some of the initial applications will include mobile phone sales, top-up of talk-time minutes, telephone line registration, and sales of other telecom products. WebRiposte's flexibility will make it easy for Post AG to integrate additional services on behalf on new partners. These new service offerings can be quickly disseminated to the entire system, enabling Post AG to proactively address their customers' evolving needs and take advantage of new opportunities as soon as they arise.
Post AG, formerly Post and Telekom Austria AG, became a customer of Escher Group in February 1998, when the organization selected Escher's Riposte solution to automate their network of 4,000 postal counters. Austria selected Riposte for its high-performance user interface, reliability, security, operating efficiency, and affordable cost of ownership. At the end of 1999, Austria's postal system successfully completed the first phase of its countrywide rollout.
