Boston, Mass. - January 6, 1997 - Escher Group Ltd announced today that Australia Post's Board of Directors has decided, subject to final contract negotiations, to base their next generation counter automation system on Riposte, Escher's premier product for postal automation. Riposte will now be used in more than 60,000 post office counters worldwide, including Ireland, the United Kingdom and Singapore, allowing Escher to maintain its role as global leader in post office automation technology.

Running on Microsoft Windows NT, the Riposte suite of products provide advanced messaging, replication services, Internet support and electronic point-of-sales capability for the post office transaction environment. Along with providing postal services, Riposte allows many international post offices to offer additional services to their customers. These services include distributing pension and benefit awards, online bill payment and electronic banking. Riposte allows a customer to perform postal, banking, agency, and retail transactions from a single point of sale. Using the touch screen-based graphical user interface, postal clerks can quickly perform complex transactions with a minimum of training. The Riposte system uses state of the art technology to insure that all transactions are electronically vetted for compliance with security requirements, corporate policy, and accounting standards.
